Children, young people and families have been helping to shape the future of Cardiff city centre through a recent engagement exercise carried out on behalf of the Economy & Culture Scrutiny Committee. The pop-up consultation, delivered by Child Friendly Cardiff and members of Cardiff Youth Council, gathered the views of around 150 people during the Easter holidays in The Hayes.

Participants highlighted what they value most about the city centre, including its shops, food, cultural attractions, library, museums, events and green spaces. They described Cardiff city centre as an important place to meet friends, spend time with family and enjoy leisure activities.

Young people also identified areas for improvement. Common themes included creating a safer, cleaner and greener city centre, providing more free and family-friendly activities, improving public spaces and seating, better transport options, and developing more inclusive and welcoming spaces for children and teenagers.

The findings will be considered by the Economy & Culture Scrutiny Committee as part of its inquiry into Cardiff city centre and will help inform future recommendations to Cabinet. By listening directly to children and young people, Cardiff continues to ensure that future city centre investment reflects the needs and experiences of all ages.
