Thank you for helping with Cardiff’s participation review

Your experiences and ideas have helped us understand how children and young people are listened to and involved in decisions across Cardiff.

Young people trained in peer research helped lead discussions. Through focus groups and online engagement, you shared what helps you take part, what gets in the way and how participation could improve.

What we heard

Trusted adults, safe spaces and different ways to share your views matter. There are positive examples of children and young people influencing decisions, but these opportunities are not equally accessible. Sometimes you are asked too late, and it is not always clear who makes decisions.

A key message was that you often do not hear what happened after sharing your views.

What happens next

Your contributions have informed a draft report. It recommends involving children earlier, making participation more inclusive, explaining how decisions are made and providing clear feedback about what changed and why.

The proposed next step is to share the findings with participating groups and ask whether we have understood your experiences correctly. Children and young people should also help identify actions and review progress.

Thank you for sharing your views and helping shape these recommendations.
