This summer, Cardiff Council worked with partner Our Voice, Our Journey to launch two exciting projects aimed at promoting gender equity and supporting boys and young men across the city.
The first brought together boys, community leaders, and school practitioners at Cardiff and Vale College for a day of fun, creative workshops to co-design a new network of boys’ groups. Participants shaped what these groups should look like, where they should run, and how they could provide safe, supportive spaces for young men in schools, colleges, and communities.
The second, REWIRED, was a four-day summer programme hosted at the Sport Wales National Centre. Fully subscribed, it offered boys the chance to take part in sport, art, filmmaking, podcasts, and informal talks on mental health and positive masculinity. With surprise trips, free meals, and inspiring role models, the programme gave participants new skills, confidence, and memories to last.
Together, these projects are helping boys and young men to thrive, while tackling issues such as peer violence, inequality, and the pressures facing young people today—making Cardiff a fairer, safer, and more inclusive city for everyone.
